Irv Vincent Memorial Golf Challenge Raises $40,000 for East Shore Industries, Inc.

 

On June 19, 2007 one-hundred and sixty-four golfers took part in the 8th Annual East Shore Industries, Inc. Irv Vincent Memorial Golf Challenge at Northbrook Country Club in Luxemburg. Over $40,000 was raised for East Shore Industries, Inc. during this one day event. According to Ron Opicka, CEO of East Shore Industries, Inc., "The event was a great success. All funds raised through this year's golf challenge will directly benefit the programs at East Shore Industries."


The day included great weather, great golf and contests at each hole, raffle drawings, a silent auction, and an evening dinner. First place was won by team 'Green Bay Highway Products (Max Richards, Jeff Jazgar, John Dougherty, and Sam Dougherty); second place went to Vincent Group of Green Bay (Mike Tiedt, Jim Dhuey, Roy Brown, and Chris Beranek); and third place went to Team Slaby of Algoma (James Slaby, David Slaby, John Slaby, and Sam Slaby).

 

This event is the main fundraiser for East Shore Industries and over the past seven years, through the generosity of both participants and sponsors, has raised over $178,000. According to Ron Opicka, CEO of East Shore Industries, Inc., "Each year we assist over 100 individuals with disabilities in obtaining their personal independence and employment goals. The funds raised during this event make a significant difference in the quality of life of the individuals served at East Shore."



 
    
 

Arlene Stauber Recieves RFW 2007 Excellence Award For Demonstrating Dedication To Serving Individuals With Disabilities

East Shore Industries, Inc. and Rehabilitation for Wisconsin (RFW) is pleased to announce Arlene Stauber as a recipient of the 2007 Excellence Award. Ms. Stauber was nominated for the award by East Shore Industries, Inc. for her contributions to the organization and her dedication and support to serving individuals with disabilities in her community for over 20 years.  She was honored in an awards ceremony on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at N.E.W. Curative Rehabilitation, Inc. in Green Bay, WI.

East Shore Industries is dedicated to the mission of assisting individuals with disabilities in obtaining their personal independence and employment goals. Ms. Stauber has been an integral part of East Shore Industries success through her involvement as a Board member and advocate since 1985.

The services Wisconsin's CRPs provide are vital to people with disabilities in need of programs and resources to assist them in living and working in the community. According to U.S. Census Data, there are over 50 million people with some level of disability living in the United States, 10 million of whom report needing personal assistance with one or more activities of daily living. People with disabilities also experience a staggering unemployment rate of 70 percent, with over 11 million reporting a medical condition that makes it difficult to find a job or remain employed.

"RFW member organizations like East Shore Industries, Inc. provide essential vocational, residential and community support to over 50 thousand people with disabilities in Wisconsin communities," states RFW Executive Director Michael Kirby. "We are proud to recognize Arlene Stauber for her dedication to helping people with disabilities to experience a more fulfilling quality of life in their communities."



 
    
 

East Shore Industries, Inc. Receives new Bus

East Shore Industries, Inc. (ESI) recently put into service a new bus. The bus is the first of two that ESI will receive through a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) Elderly and Disabled Transportation Capital Assistance Program - Section 5310.

 

The 2007 Starcraft bus, with a Ford chassis, can seat 12 people and two wheelchairs or 18 people and no wheelchairs. The bus will replace an older ESI bus with 170,000 miles. The older bus will remain part of the fleet but will only be used as a back-up.

 

The total cost of the bus was $46,000. 80% of the total cost was paid for by the State of Wisconsin 5310 grant, the other 20% is the local share.

 

The second bus is scheduled to be received in summer of 2008.
