School to Work

Young adults from area schools' Exceptional Educational Needs classes are linked to critical transitional services. East Shore Industries works with the young adult and their family, as well as the school to develop a plan for the transition made from being a high school student to being a working young adult, interacting and perhaps living in the community.

Connections with other agencies which already do or could provide services or assistance are established. We begin by assessing the individuals' needs, preferences, and interests. Information is gained by conducting a functional evaluation to determine the person's skills in caring for themselves and in managing real-life activities. We also assess functional vocational options by examining skills in work behavior and work readiness. A specific plan is developed after examining and discussing the options. This plan may include vocational skills training at East Shore and/or referral to other agencies that may provide services.
